Woolley Bears (carpet beetles) in your carpet

A woolly bear is not as cute as it sounds. In fact, these insects can do significant damage to your personal property. Carpet beetles, as they are more commonly known, are a typical household pest. Adults give birth in dark spots and while rather unpleasant to look at, are not a cause for concern. Carpet beetles in the larvae stage, however, are known to do damage to anything consisting of organic fibers, such as carpet, furniture, clothing, and even the felt fabric inside many wood instruments. They are hard to find because they prefer to live in air ducts, closets, and under baseboards. Often confused with bed bugs, these little guys do in fact do leave you feeling itchy and scratchy, however unlike bed bugs, only certain people are more vulnerable to them. If you suspect you have carpet beetles (or have recently pulled up your carpet and exposed their breeding ground), you can easily get rid of them with a simple insecticide.

The important thing to remember here is that regular carpet AND air duct cleaning is the most effective preventative measure.
